Greetings to the Lions Missouri MD-26

Lion Marcia and I hope this finds each of you enjoying the summer months and all of the festivities that come with this time of year. Also with this time of year comes the beginning of a new Lionistic year.
With the new districts in place and  excited from their trip to District Governors School in Bangkok, Thailand and the International Convention, it is now time to get the year rolling. The International Convention was a great experience and as usual, the parade was one of the greatest highlights. Another great highlight was the announcement that "WORLD OUTREACH LIONS CLUB" of Kansas City, Missouri was the voted the number two club in the world of Lionsim. The delegate voting that took place prior to the closing session passed all of the constitutional amendments that were on the ballot. The one amendment that most affects our Multiple was the institution of the
position of 2nd Vice-District Governor. This position will take effect with the 2009-2010 Lionistic year. That is when the District’s will be voting on an individual to fill the position. During this
coming year each District will need to institute the necessary language into their constitutions to be in compliance with the International Constitution.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to each of you that in some way made the Campaign Sightfirst II goal of 200 Million Dollars a reality by the end of the three year program. It truly shows that LIONS can give of their time, their resources and their hearts to fulfill dreams for those less fortunate than they are. I would especially congratulate Lion P.I.D. W.R. O’Riley on this victory as he served as the coordinator for the western half of the United States and to all of the coordinators within our Multiple.
Our new International President has a theme of “Miracles Through Service-Everyday Hero’s”. I have to believe that each and everyday that we as LIONS are someone’s everyday hero. We may not know the individual and we may not know exactly what we have done or helped do to make their life better, but we do know that everything we do is for the service towards humanity and
mankind.
By now I’m sure some of you have heard the phrase “GMT” coming around and within the next couple of weeks, at your cabinet meetings, you will probably hear it more. It stands for
Global Membership Team. This “Team” is comprised of many individuals including the District Governor, Vice-District Governor's), the MERL Team, the Region and Zone Chairs,
Women’s Initiative and others as designated by each district. The purpose of the team is to develop a comprehend for all phases of membership development within each district including new club extension, membership development within existing clubs, club revitalization, and retention
of existing members including reorientation. This plan is to be for a minimum of three years with the hopes that it will lead to a permanent growth effort on an annual basis. If your District Gov request so that our Multiple may concerned asks you to be a part of this team or to help in some other way, please be receptive to their again grow towards the membership we had as a goal many years ago. The base has been initiated to grow from, so now is the time to go forward. Remember, procrastination is easy, initiation is hard. Let’s all be on the initiation field, accepting the challenge
and moving forward.
I would ask that each and every member of our Multiple take the time to do ask yourself three questions; (1) Why I became a Lion, (2) What have I accomplished as a Lion and (3) What
can I do to be a better Lion? After you answer those questions, keep the answers in the back
of your mind and S.M.I.L.E. (Simply Make It Lions Everyday)
With best wishes to you and your family for a great summer and a bountiful fall,

Lion P.I.D. Leland Kolkmeyer

All-Star Game a Success

The 32nd Lions All-Star Football Game was definitely a success this year. All aspects of the week long camp, banquet & game went very smoothly. We had some never done
before events for the players this year as well. On Thursday they were treated to a tour of Whiteman Air Force Base, home of the B2 Stealth Bomber. On Friday there was a
presentation given by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The speakers were former NFL
player Paul Coffman and UCM free safety Drake Pollard (photo attached). The shared testimony of how FCA and God has affected their lives and football careers. Earlier in the week the players performed a Community service project at “Lions Lake" in Warrensburg and heard a presentation from Annie Kuhl about the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation. A total of 66 players were in camp this year. The Friday night banquet was very well attended by just over 300. All sales areas were up this year from last year,
so hopefully our financial success will be improved as well. Everything culminated with a very well played game on Saturday night. The game was called due to very nearby lightning activity at the end of the 3rd quarter with the East team leading 47 – 17.
Throughout the game the Missouri Lions All-State Band performed as well as playing the
national anthem and giving an excellent half-time show. We had a special performance during pregame  by a select group of Past International Directors, Past and current Council Chairpersons. They were challenged to act as Cheerleaders and show some “leg”. They agreed but only for money. After $110 was raised to benefit the game proceeds from
assorted Lions in the stands the challenge was met and the attached picture picture shows their ability . A big thanks to all Lions and Clubs that helped in any way in helping us realize yet another successful game.
