Springfield Queen City Lions Newsletter – May 2009
Dear
Queen City Lions,
Wow, what a month! We are always
looking for new members, but who would believe that we would have 28
new members! The Springfield Southeast Lions Club has merged with our
club and it is now official. We welcome all of you and hope that
we all get to know each other better. We also have another new member
and that is Nate Thompson, son of Lions Roger and Ruth Thompson.
Nate has helped us many times at the fair and we’re glad to have him
as one of us.
Many activities are coming up and I’ll
try to list as many as I can. First is our Installation Dinner. It
will be held at Cooper Estates on Tuesday, June 9 at
6:30 and Lion Ken Farrell will be catering the meal. I’m not sure what
we are having, but I heard he provides a very nice meal. The cost is
$12.00 a person and Lion Jim Dowell is taking reservations. If you are
unable to be at a meeting you can call him at 886-3609.
Volunteers are needed to decorate; the club will pick up the cost of
decorating. DGE Charlie Haywood will be the installing officer
The Republic Lions are hosting a trip
to see the Springfield Cardinals on Saturday, July 25. The cost is
$9.00 a ticket and reservations need to be made before July 15. I will
turn in the reservations along with the money to the Republic Club.
The next activity is working the gates
at the Ozark Empire Fair. That will be Friday, July 31, Sat. Aug. 1,
Sun. Aug 2, and Sat. Aug. 8. We are hired every year to sell admission
tickets. We have not received the contract, but know it is on the way.
We hope you will help if you are able. More on this later.
The SE club always sponsored a golf
tournament and we intend on continuing this. The date is October 3.
Look forward to another great year.
