Dr. Ron Walkenback accepts a $4000.00 check from the Springfield
Southeast
Lions Club to be used for eye research. Past president Howard Shayne,
Jeannie
Snell and Chris Curtis present the check that was part of the income from
the
Annual Bob Snell Golf Tournament. What is the
Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation (MLERF)?
MLERF is the
state sight project
for the Lions of Missouri.
. We are dedicated to the
"preservation and restoration of
sight."
. We operate vision programs
in the state of Missouri that are touching the lives of
those in
your own community.
What is MLERF
doing in your community?
.
Heartland Lions Eye Banks
- providing corneal tissue
for transplant to 70
District H recipients during
this FY to date.
. Amblyopia
Prevention - offering
free vision screenings to
children at daycares, preschools and community events. During this FY to
date with the help of Lion volunteers we screened 1,468 children during
39 screenings, identifying 47 children at risk in District
H.
. Eye Care Assistance
- helping indigent
Missourians, who do not qualify for government assistance, receive
vision care. During this FY we have had 1 patient from District
H.
Glaucoma Detection
- providing free screenings
throughout the state to help identify adults at risk for glaucoma. In
this FY to date we have screened 89 people in District H.
. Eyeglass
Recycling
- working with the Lions
Clubs of Missouri to collect and distribute recycled eyeglasses to
medical mission groups going overseas to provide vision care.
What can we do
to ensure MLERF's success in continuing to save sight?
.
Spread the good news! Share your
support of MLERF with
other Lions and those in your community.
. Share your
time and talents
with MLERF. Volunteer to help
out with our programs or help us out at one of our fundraising triathlon
events.
. Consider making
a sight pledge
to MLERF, or increasing the
value of your current level of giving.
